Home Services Sedation

Going to the dentist should be a positive and enjoyable experience for your child. We keep things fun and engaging to help put your child’s mind at ease, but we know that they may still feel anxious or nervous about treatment. Sedation options are available as another resource to enhance calmness and relaxation. Dr. Lisa and her dental team offer anesthesia in the office based on your child’s comfort level and type of treatment plan.

Our Sedation Options

We offer two different types of sedation to create a comfortable and safe environment that facilitates high-quality care. Dr. Lisa carefully reviews your child’s treatment plan and their individual needs to recommend an appropriate sedation method as necessary.

  • Nitrous Oxide: Nitrous oxide is a combination of nitrous gas and oxygen that is breathed in through a mask that is placed over the nose. Your child will begin to feel more relaxed as they inhale the gas. They may feel a little silly or giddy, which is why nitrous oxide is also referred to as laughing gas.

The nitrous will then be replaced with just oxygen as the procedure is completed, and your child will become more alert and recognize other sensations they previously did not feel while under the effects of the nitrous oxide. Full recovery takes just a few minutes while they breathe in the oxygen.

  • IV Sedation: IV sedation may be recommended to enhance safety and comfort if your child is very young or unable to sit relatively still during treatment. It also may be advisable if they have special needs or if they are undergoing extensive dental procedures. We partner with a pediatric anesthesiologist who administers and monitors the IV sedation while our team focuses on delivering personalized dental care.
